Green Cat Hydrogen (GCH) has announced plans to build a new green hydrogen facility in Dumfries and Galloway, aiming to produce over 4,000 tonnes of hydrogen annually. The facility is expected to play a key role in reducing carbon emissions and supporting local industries, reports Renewables Now.
The proposal is now open for public feedback, and GCH has stated that it is still in the planning approval process. Two public consultation events will be held before the final application is submitted to the Dumfries and Galloway Council. Meanwhile, preliminary engineering and environmental studies are already underway.
The facility will be located near Chapelcross, within South of Scotland Enterprise’s Energy Transition Zone. Once operational, it is projected to offset up to 26,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.
The construction phase of the project is expected to create around 150 jobs, while approximately 50 permanent jobs will be available once the facility is up and running.
Founded in 2022, GCH is also developing additional green hydrogen projects across Scotland, including in Perthshire and Orkney.
