Suzlon Group has further strengthened its position in India’s renewable energy sector after securing a major wind power project from Sunsure Energy in Karnataka. The latest order has pushed Suzlon’s total orderbook in the state beyond the 2 GW mark, highlighting Karnataka’s growing role as one of India’s leading wind energy markets.
As part of the agreement, Suzlon Group will install 65 S144 wind turbine generators, each with a capacity of 3.0 MW, in Karnataka’s Bijapur district. The company will be responsible for supplying the turbines, carrying out erection and commissioning activities, and providing long-term operations and maintenance services after the project is completed, Machine Maker reported.
The project is part of Sunsure Energy’s broader plan to expand its round-the-clock renewable energy portfolio aimed at supporting industrial decarbonisation, electric mobility, and the rising power demand from data centres and other digital infrastructure. Suzlon is also currently executing additional commercial and industrial renewable energy projects in Karnataka with a combined capacity of 664 MW.
Commenting on the development, Girish Tanti said India’s growing emphasis on renewable energy, particularly wind power, is helping strengthen long-term energy security. He noted that Suzlon’s 3 MW platform has become a key growth driver for the company, contributing significantly to orderbook expansion across Karnataka, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Maharashtra.
According to Suzlon, Karnataka has emerged as its largest market in terms of orderbook volume, driven by increasing demand from commercial and industrial consumers seeking dependable renewable energy solutions capable of providing round-the-clock power.
Shashank Sharma said the next stage of clean energy development will depend on delivering reliable power during peak demand periods rather than relying solely on intermittent generation. He added that the partnership with Suzlon aligns with Sunsure Energy’s goal of developing scalable renewable energy solutions that combine wind, solar and battery storage technologies.
Ajay Kapur stated that Suzlon has already developed nearly 300 MW of partnership projects with Sunsure Energy, reflecting continued confidence in the company’s project execution capabilities, technology platform and lifecycle support services.
Founded in 2014, Sunsure Energy is a leading independent power producer focused on round-the-clock clean energy solutions. Backed by Partners Group AG, the company currently operates 700 MW of renewable energy assets and is developing more than 7 GW of projects across several Indian states. It aims to achieve 10 GW of operational capacity by 2030.
Suzlon Group remains one of India’s pioneering wind energy companies and a global renewable energy player, with decades of experience in designing, manufacturing and installing wind turbines that have contributed significantly to the country’s clean energy growth.
