Gasum has expanded its renewable fuel infrastructure in Norway with the opening of a new biogas station at the Port of Trondheim, taking the company’s total number of liquefied biogas (LBG) filling stations in the country to 13, Mobility Plaza reported.
Located near the E6 highway, the new facility is positioned to serve both local and long-distance transport operators using Trondheim as a key logistics hub in central Norway. The station provides both liquefied biogas (LBG) and compressed biogas (CBG), enabling it to cater to different types of gas-powered vehicles.
The new facility complements Gasum’s existing station in Tiller, Trondheim, which began operations in 2021. The company said increasing demand for renewable fuels in recent years supported the decision to expand its infrastructure and improve fuel availability in the region.
The Port of Trondheim station is also part of Gasum’s broader strategy to develop biogas infrastructure along Norway’s major transport corridors. The company is particularly focusing on routes used by heavy-duty vehicles travelling north from Trondheim.
The expansion comes as Norway continues to strengthen efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The country has set a target of cutting emissions by at least 55% by 2030 and 70-75% by 2035. Road transport remains a significant source of emissions and is an important area for decarbonisation.
With the latest addition in Trondheim, Gasum is further strengthening its Nordic renewable fuel network and supporting the transition towards lower-emission road freight transport.
