Advait Energy, Norway’s TECO join hands for hydrogen fuel cell manufacturing in India, boosts bioenergy sector

Advait Energy Transitions Ltd has signed a memorandum of understanding with Norway-based TECO Fuel Cell Technology to establish a framework for hydrogen fuel cell manufacturing in India.

The agreement was signed during the 3rd India-Nordic Summit held in Oslo by Advait Energy founder and managing director Shalin Sheth and TECO Maritime Group executive chairman and TECO Fuel Cell Technology chief executive officer Tore Enger. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Narendra Modi and Jonas Gahr Støre on the sidelines of the summit, The Economic Times reported.

Under the partnership, TECO Fuel Cell Technology and its co-development partner AVL List GmbH will introduce their jointly developed 400 kW hydrogen fuel cell module and a 100 kW hydrogen fuel cell stack for local manufacturing, adaptation and deployment in India.

The companies said the hydrogen fuel cell technology is modular and can be scaled up into multi-megawatt systems. The collaboration will focus on three major application areas — stationary power systems such as data centres, heavy-duty transport and mobility solutions, and maritime and shipping operations.

Shalin Sheth said the partnership reflects the increasing role of Indian companies in global technology collaborations and supports efforts to localise advanced manufacturing for sustainable energy systems.

According to the companies, manufacturing for stationary power applications is expected to begin from the first quarter of 2027, while production for heavy-duty transport and mobility projects is targeted from the first quarter of 2028. Maritime and shipping applications are expected to progress alongside mobility projects through 2028.

The programme is expected to generate at least 200 direct and indirect skilled jobs by 2032 in areas including engineering, production, systems integration and project execution.

The agreement also includes knowledge transfer, joint engineering, testing, validation and long-term technical cooperation with AVL List GmbH.

The company said the partnership supports the Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative and the National Green Hydrogen Mission, which aims to achieve annual green hydrogen production of 5 million metric tonnes by 2030.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Norway was part of his five-nation diplomatic tour covering the UAE, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy between May 15 and May 20, 2026. The visit also marked the first trip by an Indian Prime Minister to Norway in 43 years.
