Gujarat’s Kandla port is set to become the first in India to host an operational Green Hydrogen plant, which will utilize indigenous Electrolysers within the port limits. According to a statement from the Ministry of Shipping, the port aims to begin green hydrogen production in the second half of 2025.
A 1-Megawatt (MW) electrolyser, built by L&T for the project, will initially be installed, with plans to expand the capacity to 10 MW. The Green Hydrogen Plant is expected to be fully operational by July 2025, with a production capacity of around 18 kg of Green Hydrogen per hour, or approximately 80-90 tonnes annually. Work at the site has already been completed, and the electrolysers will soon be assembled on-site to initiate operations.
The green hydrogen produced at the facility will be used to generate clean energy through Fuel Cells, offering a sustainable, eco-friendly power solution for the port. Additionally, Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) plans to incorporate Green Ammonia production by adding the necessary modules to the plant.
