China launches SAF service for foreign-registered business jets

Beijing: China has introduced its first sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) compliance service for foreign-registered business jets, with Sino Jet and China National Aviation Fuel Co Ltd implementing the new model at Beijing Capital International Airport, Ethanol Producer Magazine reported.

The initiative makes Sino Jet the first business aviation service provider in China to use the model for foreign-registered business jets. The companies said the service addresses a gap in the use of SAF by international business jets operating in the country and could support the sector’s shift towards lower-carbon operations.

Sino Jet, a business aviation operations and services provider in the Asia-Pacific region, manages a number of foreign-registered business jets and provides operational support to international clients in China.

The company said it has already achieved carbon neutrality across its own operations and aims to make its entire fleet carbon neutral by 2035. It has also incorporated environmental and sustainability measures into its operations and customer services.

Until now, SAF services in China have mainly been available to commercial passenger and cargo airlines. International business jets, which operate on more flexible schedules and have different operating requirements, did not have a dedicated standardised system for using SAF.

The new service does not require changes to existing airport refuelling operations or physical fuel supply infrastructure. Instead, it allows SAF-related emissions reductions to be accounted for and transferred while using the existing airport system.

China Aviation Fuel said its existing SAF service network would provide the basis for the model, while Sino Jet has adapted the service to the operating needs of foreign-registered business jets.

The companies said the system could simplify access to SAF for international business aviation and provide a model that could be expanded as demand for sustainable fuel increases.

The implementation also marks the first use of China Aviation Fuel’s SAF service model in international business aviation. The company has already established regular SAF services for conventional passenger and cargo aviation.

Du Chao, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and president of China Aviation Fuel, said the initiative demonstrated the company’s efforts to promote greener civil aviation through new service models.

He said the partnership with Sino Jet would provide an example for reducing emissions in business aviation and added that China Aviation Fuel would continue to improve its operating systems and expand green services for the sector.
