Bangchak expands used cooking oil network to support SAF production in Thailand

Bangkok: Thailand’s Bangchak Group is expanding its partnerships with organisations and schools across the country to collect used cooking oil for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production.

Through its Fry to Fly and No Refry programmes, the group is building a wider collection network while promoting safer cooking oil practices, reducing waste and supporting the use of resources in a circular economy. The initiative also supports Thailand’s goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, Bangchak News reported.

On August 20, Bangchak affiliates BSGF Company Limited (BSGF) and Bangkok Fuel Pipeline and Logistics Company Limited (BFPL) signed an agreement with the Sammacheep Foundation on the collection and management of used cooking oil.

The partnership aims to encourage businesses and organisations in the foundation’s network to collect and manage used cooking oil properly and sell the collected oil to BSGF for use in SAF production through the No Refry and Fry to Fly programmes.

The agreement was signed by BSGF Director Kandamas Kritayanukul, BFPL General Director Atit Chinanthanasiri and Sammacheep Foundation Executive Chairman Mongkol Leelatham at Bangchak’s Phra Khanong refinery. BSGF General Manager Suraporn Petchdee and Sammacheep Foundation Director Kriengkrai Sinbuathong attended the signing as witnesses.

Separately, the Bai Mai Pun Suk Foundation, established by Bangchak Group, held a Fry to Fly Station workshop for teachers and students from four participating schools in Bangkok and neighbouring provinces.

The workshop covered global warming, the circular economy, efficient use of resources, waste separation, safe use of cooking oil and the operation of Fry to Fly collection stations in schools.

Gloyta Nathalang, senior executive vice-president for sustainability management and corporate communications at Bangchak Corporation and a board member of the Bai Mai Pun Suk Foundation, welcomed participants at Bangchak Corporation’s headquarters in Bangkok.

The Fry to Fly Station network, launched in late 2024, has grown to more than 50 educational institutions across 12 provinces. The network has collected more than 10 tonnes of used cooking oil, which has been sent for SAF production.

Bangchak said it plans to expand the network further by working with more schools and organisations across Thailand.
