UP-Japan Investment Meet to focus on green energy, EVs, semiconductors

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will meet Japanese business leaders in New Delhi on Wednesday as part of the UP-Japan Investment Meet 2026, with talks expected to focus on investment opportunities in green energy, electric vehicles, semiconductors and other industries.

More than 200 Japanese industrialists, CEOs, business leaders and policymakers are taking part in the investment meet, being held from August 18 to 23. The delegation is led by Yamanashi Prefecture Governor Kotaro Nagasaki, Business Standard reported.

The CEO Roundtable, to be held at the Taj Palace and chaired by Adityanath, will bring together Japanese industry representatives and senior government officials to discuss industrial partnerships and investment opportunities in Uttar Pradesh.

Discussions will cover green hydrogen, renewable energy, electric mobility, semiconductors, advanced materials, automobile components and digital infrastructure. Japanese investors will also be briefed on the state’s industrial facilities and investment policies.

The event will include virtual ground-breaking ceremonies for projects proposed by Escorts Kubota and Minda Corporation in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) area.

Escorts Kubota’s project in Sector 10 involves an investment of about ₹2,025 crore and is expected to create more than 3,800 jobs. Minda Corporation has proposed two projects in Sector 10 and Sector 24 with a combined investment of ₹1,166 crore, which could generate about 6,440 jobs.

Together, the projects represent an investment of ₹3,191 crore and are expected to create more than 10,000 jobs.

The meeting will also showcase the proposed 500-acre Japan City at YEIDA, which is being planned as an industrial hub for Japanese companies, suppliers and supporting industries.

Alok Kumar, additional chief secretary of the Infrastructure and Industrial Development Department, will present details of the proposed Japan City and investment opportunities for Japanese businesses.

The project is expected to support supply-chain integration, technology transfer and job creation by bringing Japanese companies and related industries together.

Other sessions during the investment meet will focus on innovation, industry and investment, as well as green transformation in mobility, energy and strategic materials. Discussions will also cover startups, technology, banking, skilled workers and strategic industries.

Union and state ministers, senior officials and representatives of Japanese companies are expected to attend the event.
