Tripartite pact signed to set up 75-MTPD cow dung biogas plant in Banaskantha

National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), Banas Milk Union (Banas Dairy) and the Suzuki Research and Development Institute have signed an agreement to set up a biogas plant with a capacity of 75 tonnes per day, reports Indiancooperative.com.

The agreement was signed during the inauguration of a 100 tonnes per day compressed biogas plant at Bukhala village in Banaskantha. The occasion marked an important step in the state’s efforts to expand clean energy production through the cooperative sector.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by Sangram Chaudhari, Managing Director of Banas Milk Union, Kenichiro Toyofuku, Director of Suzuki R&D Centre India Private Limited, and Shashikumar B N, Group Head (ES) at NDDB. The signing took place in the presence of Gujarat Legislative Assembly Speaker and Chairman of Banas Milk Union Shankar Chaudhary, Gujarat Agriculture Minister Jitu Vaghani, and senior officials from the dairy, cooperative and energy sectors.

The proposed biogas plant will use cow dung collected through the cooperative dairy network to produce compressed biogas and organic manure. The project is expected to support clean energy generation, improve waste handling, and create additional income opportunities for dairy farmers, helping strengthen rural livelihoods.

The partnership reflects NDDB’s focus on sustainable development by linking cooperative institutions with modern technology. Through such collaborations with milk unions and technology providers, NDDB aims to increase biogas production while supporting national goals related to clean energy and resource use.

NDDB is working with cooperative milk unions across the country by providing technical support and advisory services for setting up compressed biogas plants. These efforts align with national priorities of improving farmer incomes, better use of waste and the objectives of the ministries overseeing animal husbandry, dairying and cooperation.
