UK-based Drax upgrades Biomass Tracker with interactive map of global pellet supply chain

UK-based power generator Drax has enhanced its online Biomass Tracker by introducing an interactive mapping feature that provides a geographical view of the journey of woody biomass pellets, from forest sourcing and production to transportation and delivery at its power station in North Yorkshire.

Launched on September 30, the new feature maps the company’s global biomass supply chain, highlighting the links between pellet manufacturing facilities, forestry operations and transportation networks. According to Drax, the interactive tool is designed to make its sourcing and logistics operations easier to understand.

The upgraded tracker offers more detailed information on the origin of the wood fibre used to produce biomass burned at Drax Power Station, including additional disclosures on the North American forests from which the company sources its feedstock.

It also provides information on the movement of biomass across the supply chain, including the number of shipments by road, rail and sea, along with the associated carbon emissions from each mode of transportation.

The latest update incorporates first-quarter 2026 data, following the completion of the company’s internal reporting and assurance processes. Figures for the second quarter will be added after the next reporting cycle.

Drax initially introduced the Biomass Tracker earlier this year as part of its sustainability reporting programme, with plans to expand its features and improve transparency around its biomass sourcing and supply chain operations.
