Gasum, in collaboration with REMA, has inaugurated a new liquefied biogas (LBG) filling station at REMA Distribution’s facility in Vinterbro. The station is now accessible to all operators using liquid biogas-powered trucks, according to the press release.
Situated near REMA Distribution’s warehouse, the new station is strategically located by the E6 and E18 highways, south of Oslo. Its location, close to the Oslofjord tunnel, addresses the increasing demand for biogas in the region.
As per the release, the station was made possible by REMA, which provided the land for its construction. REMA already operates a large fleet of biogas vehicles that transport goods from its Vinterbro warehouse. Having the station on-site will help streamline their logistics by reducing travel time and the need for additional trips to refuel. Although located at REMA’s distribution center, the station is open for use by all operators with biogas vehicles.
Anders Hustoft, Transport Director at REMA Distribution Norway AS, highlighted the company’s commitment to replacing all fossil-fuel transport by the end of 2026, and all leased fossil-fuel transport by 2030. “This new station is a significant step towards reaching our climate-neutral transport goals. It will simplify logistics for our biogas truck drivers and enable our contracted carriers to refuel easily at our warehouse. Our close partnership with Gasum is crucial in helping us expand our biogas vehicle fleet, and continued development of biogas infrastructure is essential to meet our climate goals,” he said.
Jogeir Munkeby, Sales Manager for Gasum in Norway, expressed his satisfaction with the collaboration: “We are delighted that REMA Distribution took the initiative to establish this biogas station in Vinterbro. It is an important addition to our national network of stations. Vinterbro is a key area for heavy transport, and the station will now provide easy access to biogas for the sector. It’s great to see growing interest in biogas among Norway’s major logistics companies, which is vital for reducing emissions in the heavy transport sector and meeting national climate targets.”
Biogas offers a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Gasum has observed rising interest among Norwegian transport companies, as biogas is a cost-effective and sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. The Vinterbro station will provide liquid biogas, ideal for those requiring long driving ranges and looking to make immediate climate improvements.
Norway has set ambitious climate targets, aiming to reduce national emissions by at least 55% by 2030 and 70-75% by 2035. The transport sector is a major contributor, accounting for a third of CO2 emissions, with road transport responsible for about half of that. Reducing emissions from this sector is key to meeting the nation’s climate objectives.
Vehicles powered by biogas can reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by 90% or more compared to fossil fuels. Additionally, they contribute to better local air quality by emitting significantly fewer nitrogen oxides than conventional fuels.
The new biogas filling station is located at Myråsdalen 15, 1407 Vinterbro.
