Saudi Arabia authorises ACWA Power to export green hydrogen, renewable electricity

Saudi Arabia has granted ACWA Power exclusive rights to export green hydrogen and its derivatives produced in the Kingdom to international markets, marking a major step in the country’s efforts to expand clean energy exports under its Vision 2030 strategy.

The approval allows ACWA Power to export green hydrogen, green ammonia, green methanol and other green fuels as global demand for low-carbon energy continues to grow, Aawsat reported.

According to the company, the decision supports Saudi Arabia’s goal of becoming a global supplier of clean energy while accelerating the development of a diversified, low-carbon economy.

The government has also assigned ACWA Power to develop projects for the production, transmission and export of renewable electricity to European and Arab markets, with the aim of strengthening regional energy security and supplying competitively priced clean electricity.

ACWA Power Chief Executive Officer Dr. Samir Serhan said the approval reflects the Kingdom’s confidence in the company’s ability to deliver large-scale strategic infrastructure projects.

He said exports of green hydrogen and renewable electricity represent the next phase of Saudi Arabia’s energy strategy by creating new opportunities for economic growth while supporting global energy security and the transition to cleaner energy.

Serhan said the company remains committed to developing infrastructure that delivers long-term value for Saudi Arabia and its international partners.

The mandate builds on ACWA Power’s presence in renewable energy, water desalination and green hydrogen, including its role in developing the NEOM Green Hydrogen project, one of the world’s largest green hydrogen facilities.

The company said the latest approval further strengthens its role in supporting Saudi Arabia’s long-term plans for economic diversification, industrial development and clean energy leadership.

ACWA Power currently manages a portfolio of 111 infrastructure assets across 16 countries, with assets under management valued at SAR 468.9 billion (USD 125 billion).

Serhan said the new mandate expands the company’s contribution to Saudi Arabia’s clean energy economy and will help shape the country’s future energy export strategy.

He added that ACWA Power will work with government agencies, strategic partners and international stakeholders to develop integrated infrastructure connecting Saudi Arabia’s renewable energy resources with growing global demand for green hydrogen and renewable electricity.

The company said the approval also strengthens its long-term growth strategy by expanding its role across renewable energy, green hydrogen, electricity transmission and energy infrastructure while reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s position as a reliable global supplier of sustainable energy solutions.
