Polish construction company Unibep SA has secured a contract to build a new biomass-powered boiler plant at a combined heat and power (CHP) facility in Pruszków, located in the Masovian province of central Poland, reports Renewables Now.
The contract, valued at approximately PLN 255.4 million (USD 66.7 million or EUR 60 million), was signed with Orlen Termika SA, a subsidiary of Polish energy giant Orlen. The project will involve the installation of three biomass-fuelled boilers, each with a thermal capacity of 14.9 MW.
Unibep will be responsible for constructing the boiler house, installing auxiliary systems, and integrating the new units with the existing infrastructure at the CHP plant. The project is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2027.
This development comes shortly after a consortium led by Unibep was selected to construct a cross-border biomass heating plant in the Lower Silesia region. That project will supply heating from two 12.5 MW boilers to residents in the Polish town of Zgorzelec and the neighbouring German town of Görlitz.
The expansion of biomass infrastructure reflects Poland’s ongoing efforts to shift towards more sustainable and renewable energy sources.
