Mohali: The Mohali Municipal Corporation House will meet on Monday to consider a proposal for a compressed biogas (CBG) plant at Samgoli, along with road improvement works, regularisation of contract sanitation workers, expansion of sewerage services and other civic issues, Hindustan Times reported.
The meeting is scheduled for 11 am and will also discuss recruitment and staff appointments, services in newly incorporated areas, civic infrastructure and issues concerning newly developed sectors and villages.
One of the key proposals is to allot around 15-20 acres of municipal land at Samgoli for a municipal solid waste-based CBG plant. HPCL Renewable & Green Energy (HPRGE), a wholly owned subsidiary of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, has approached the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority and the municipal corporation for the project.
The proposed plant would process around 300 tonnes of segregated wet waste a day, with local bodies expected to supply the waste. HPRGE has sought a long-term arrangement for the land and support for road access, statutory clearances and assured supply of organic municipal waste. The company has proposed a concession agreement and long-term lease for the project.
The House will also consider proposals for strengthening and improving several roads, including routes connecting Phase 7 and Phase 8, Phase 11 and Phase 9, the Mohali Golf Club-IISER stretch and the Police Station-Mohali Pinjore road. Proposals for widening and strengthening other roads and routes within the municipal area are also on the agenda.
The regularisation of contract sanitation workers is another important proposal. The agenda refers to government directions on regularisation and seeks consideration of cases involving eligible workers.
According to the proposal, 697 sanitation workers were recruited in 2022, of whom 627 were appointed on contract. At present, 480 contract sanitation workers are working with the corporation. The House will consider their regularisation under the applicable government policy.
The meeting will also take up proposals related to recruitment and appointments, municipal services in newly incorporated areas, sewerage facilities and civic infrastructure. Matters concerning newly developed sectors, villages and road networks, along with pending administrative and service-related issues, are also expected to be discussed.
