On Sunday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated a grain-based distillery plant worth Rs 1,200 crore under the state’s super mega project at the Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA).
During his address, CM Adityanath emphasized that the facility is not just a distillery but an ethanol plant, which will initially produce 350,000 liters of ethanol per day, with plans to increase production to 500,000 liters in the future.
“This is more than just a distillery; it is an ethanol plant. Ethanol is now being used not only to fuel vehicles but also airplanes. Shifting from diesel and petrol to ethanol will save foreign exchange and benefit our farmers. In the first phase, the plant will produce 350,000 liters of ethanol daily, with plans to ramp it up to 500,000 liters,” CM Yogi stated.
He further explained that ethanol production in India has surged from 42 lakh liters to 177 crore liters, thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative to use surplus sugarcane for ethanol production.
“Ethanol is now playing a crucial role in saving foreign exchange, and it’s not only being used for cars but for airplanes as well. India spends Rs 7-8 lakh crore annually on diesel and petrol imports. Since Prime Minister Modi took charge, he has prioritized the welfare of farmers by promoting ethanol production from surplus sugarcane. This policy has led to a significant rise in ethanol production in Uttar Pradesh, from 42 lakh liters to 177 crore liters, which is now used for blending with diesel and petrol, contributing to foreign exchange savings,” CM Yogi said.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the transformation of GIDA under the leadership of the BJP, noting that it has attracted over Rs 15,000 crore in investments, reversing the previous lack of industrial development in the region.
“This is the same GIDA where there was no interest in setting up industries in the past. Over the last eight years, we have successfully attracted more than Rs 15,000 crore in investments, generating 50,000 job opportunities for the youth. Many new industries are coming in, including garment parks. People from across the state approach me in Lucknow expressing interest in investing in Gorakhpur and GIDA. This shift indicates that Uttar Pradesh, especially Gorakhpur, has now become a secure and attractive destination for investment,” CM Yogi remarked.
