IGL, CEID join hands to establish over 25 compressed biogas plants across India

New Delhi: Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) and CEID have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish more than 25 compressed biogas (CBG) plants across India through their joint venture, with a combined production capacity of over 125 tonnes per day (TPD), Renewable Watch reported.

The initiative is aligned with the Central government’s GOBARdhan scheme and aims to convert organic waste into renewable fuel. The projects are also expected to promote better waste management, encourage the reuse of resources and support the government’s vision of a self-reliant India.

Under the initiative, organic waste will be used as raw material for producing compressed biogas, providing an alternative to conventional fuels while supporting the development of a circular economy.

Earlier, in April 2026, the Noida Authority signed a letter of intent with IGL to develop a 300 TPD compressed biogas plant in the city.

The proposed facility will produce compressed biogas for use as a cleaner fuel, along with bio-manure for agricultural and landscaping purposes.

Under the agreement, the Noida Authority will provide land for the project and ensure a regular supply of segregated organic waste. IGL will be responsible for developing the facility, either independently or through its authorised partners.
