A new collaboration will lead to the establishment of a biogas plant in Paradeep Municipality, District Jagatsinghpur, Odisha. This project is a partnership between Tecnimont Private Limited (TCMPL), a subsidiary of Tecnimont, Paradeep Municipality, and the National Institute of Technology, Karnataka – Surathkal (NITK).
The biogas plant aims to promote the use of circular solutions for the efficient management of organic waste. Specifically, the project will focus on generating biogas by converting food and vegetable waste through anaerobic digestion. The resulting biogas will be utilized in community kitchens within the municipality.
According to MAIRE, the initiative is expected to create local employment opportunities, particularly for individuals involved in waste collection, while also offering educational benefits. A pilot plant was inaugurated in 2021 at the NITK campus, fostering research and enhancing energy self-sufficiency. This pilot plant generates energy by converting food and vegetable waste from hostel blocks and canteens into usable energy.
