Japan’s Renova Inc. has announced a further delay in the start of operations for its 75-MW Omaezakikou biomass plant, now set to begin in March 2025. This marks the second postponement for the project, which was initially scheduled to launch in July 2024 and later rescheduled to October 2024, reported Renewables Now.
The delay is attributed to the need for additional time to finalize adjustments to the boiler and turbine to ensure stable operations. The project’s feed-in tariff (FIT) sales period has been extended to November 30, 2044, and the plant has received the maximum amount of Liquidated Damages under the EPC contract.
The biomass plant will use wood pellets and palm kernel shells (PKS) as fuel sources and is expected to generate approximately 530 million kWh of electricity annually, sufficient to power around 170,000 households.
