GAIL and RRVUNL sign MoU to optimize gas-based power plants in Rajasthan

GAIL (India) Limited and Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RRVUNL) have signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance the performance of RRVUNL’s gas-based power plants in Rajasthan, according to a company statement.

The MoU seeks to evaluate the potential transfer of RRVUNL’s gas-based power plants in Dholpur and Ramgarh to a new Joint Venture Company (JVC) formed by both parties.

The collaboration aims to optimize these plants and develop around 1,000 MW of solar and wind projects on suitable land across the state. This initiative is expected to facilitate Round the Clock (RTC) power supply, ensuring reliable energy availability.

Before establishing the JVC, both parties will carry out thorough due diligence and feasibility studies to assess the techno-commercial viability of each project.

GAIL, a Maharatna Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, is a major player in natural gas transmission and distribution in India. It operates a pipeline network of about 1,090 km in Rajasthan, serving industrial clients in Bhiwadi, Neemrana, Khuskhera, Kota, Jaisalmer, and Chittorgarh. GAIL also supplies gas to 19 Authorised City Gas Distribution entities, covering residential, commercial, small industrial, and transport sectors across various districts in the state. Additionally, GAIL runs a 1,427 km Jamnagar-Loni LPG pipeline, a significant portion of which is in Rajasthan. Beyond energy, GAIL supports the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Rajasthan by providing polymers for HDPE pipe production, aiding rural water supply.

RRVUNL, the state’s energy unit, oversees power project development and operations in Rajasthan, actively seeking solutions to meet the state’s growing energy needs.
