Singapore conducts world’s largest ethanol bunkering operation at PSA terminal

Singapore has completed what it described as the world’s largest single ethanol bunkering operation, supplying approximately 5,000 metric tonnes of bioethanol to the Maersk Halifax at PSA Pasir Panjang Terminal, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said in a press release on its website.

The operation, conducted on October 17, was carried out with the support of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). Golden Island supplied the ethanol from its vessel MT Golden Centaurus. The bioethanol was ISCC-certified.

The bunkering operation involved simultaneous operations (SIMOPS), allowing cargo activities to take place alongside the fuel transfer. Mass flow meters were also used during the operation.

The exercise included an assessment of adapting Singapore’s technical reference TR129, which covers methanol bunkering, for ethanol bunkering. The assessment examined the application of the existing reference to ethanol, including the suitability of mass flow meters for measuring ethanol transfers.

MPA said the operation involved collaboration among the participating companies and agencies to carry out the bunkering activity.

The operation involved MPA, Maersk, Golden Island and PSA Singapore.
