Shell Aviation has signed a long-term agreement to purchase sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from Green Sky Manara LLC, a subsidiary of Green Sky Capital, which is developing a biorefinery in Morocco, Biodiesel Magazine reported.
The agreement, announced on November 2, makes Shell the exclusive buyer of SAF produced at the proposed facility, which will be located at Port Nador in Morocco.
According to information shared by Shell Aviation, the proposed refinery will use Hydroprocessed Esters and Fatty Acids (HEFA) technology and is expected to produce around 150,000 tonnes of SAF annually. The facility will also have the flexibility to manufacture renewable diesel, along with bio-based naphtha and propane as additional products.
The project is currently expected to begin operations in late 2028.
The agreement expands Shell’s existing partnership with Green Sky Capital in the sustainable aviation fuel sector. The companies had earlier signed a long-term agreement for SAF supplies from another biorefinery being developed in Egypt.
Announced in late 2025, the Egypt agreement covers the purchase of up to 145,000 tonnes of SAF. Production at the facility is expected to begin in late 2027.
The two projects will add to the planned production capacity of sustainable aviation fuel in North Africa, with Shell securing long-term supplies from both facilities.
