JAKARTA: Indonesia’s supplies of Pertalite and biodiesel are expected to remain secure through the end of 2026 despite global conflicts and pressure on energy prices, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said on Tuesday.
Hartarto said Indonesia’s average oil purchase price was currently around $91 a barrel and was expected to remain relatively stable through the end of the year, Antara reported.
“Indonesia’s average oil purchase price is currently around $91 per barrel; this remains relatively stable through the end of the year, meaning supplies of Pertalite and biodiesel are secure,” Hartarto told reporters.
He said conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, along with tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, continued to pose risks to global economic growth.
However, Indonesia’s current fuel purchasing arrangements were helping protect domestic supplies from immediate pressure caused by international market volatility, he said.
Hartarto said electricity generation was also stable because Indonesia’s power plants rely heavily on coal produced domestically rather than imported energy. This has helped shield electricity costs from fluctuations in global energy markets, he said.
On gasoline supplies, Hartarto said Indonesia’s main supply routes pass through Singapore and the Strait of Malacca, avoiding the Strait of Hormuz and reducing exposure to tensions in the region.
The minister said stable energy supplies and controlled inflation had helped support Indonesia’s economic performance. The economy grew 5.45% in the first half of the year, putting Indonesia among the better-performing economies in ASEAN and the G20.
Inflation stood at 2.88% despite continued inflationary pressure in international markets.
Hartarto said maintaining stable energy supplies and keeping inflation under control would remain important as Indonesia deals with continued uncertainty in the global economy.
