US exports of biodiesel and biodiesel blends of B30 and higher fell sharply in August, while imports increased significantly, according to data released by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) on October 6, Biodiesel Magazine reported.
The US exported 21,676.4 metric tonnes of biodiesel in August, down 66% from July and 39% from August 2025. During the month, the country exported biodiesel to around seven countries.
Canada was the largest destination, receiving 20,442.9 metric tonnes, followed by Peru at 701.7 metric tonnes and Indonesia at 247.1 metric tonnes.
The value of US biodiesel exports stood at $41.22 million in August, compared with $63.17 million in July and $45.24 million in August 2025.
During the first eight months of 2026, US biodiesel exports totalled 170,123 metric tonnes, valued at $258.01 million. This compares with 218,330.2 metric tonnes worth $258.16 million exported during the same period of 2025.
Meanwhile, US biodiesel imports rose to 27,976.3 metric tonnes in August, up nearly 1% from July and significantly higher than the 200.5 metric tonnes imported in August 2025.
The US imported biodiesel from around six countries during August. Spain was the largest supplier at 12,930.2 metric tonnes, followed by Germany at 7,500 metric tonnes and Belgium-Luxembourg at 7,149.2 metric tonnes.
The value of biodiesel imports reached $46.21 million in August, down from $50.86 million in July but sharply higher than the $306,000 recorded in August 2025.
For the first eight months of 2026, US biodiesel imports stood at 93,897.2 metric tonnes, valued at $159.65 million. In the corresponding period of 2025, imports were 55,946.9 metric tonnes worth $48.72 million.
