NTPC commissions 100 MW of Ramagundam solar project, group capacity reaches 89,805 MW

State-owned power major NTPC Limited has declared the commercial operation of 100 MW out of the total 176 MW capacity of its solar photovoltaic project at Ramagundam, Telangana, with effect from May 2, 2026, taking the group’s total installed capacity to 89,805 MW and commercial capacity to 88,725 MW, Saur Energy reported.

The declaration was made through a regulatory filing to BSE Limited and the National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE) under Regulation 30 of the SEBI Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements Regulations, 2015.

Based on management guidance for the financial year 2026-27, the Navratna public sector undertaking is on course to approach the 100 gigawatt (GW) mark in total capacity during FY27. NTPC management indicated that around 2,300 to 2,400 MW of structured capacity additions are planned over the next two months, keeping the company’s 5 GW annual addition target firmly on track.

Upcoming additions are expected to include approximately 1,000 MW at Khavda, 200 MW at Bhadla, and 250 MW at Kalasar, alongside around 300 MW of wind capacity from its Gujarat plants and 500 to 550 MW from the Ayana portfolio, according to management guidance shared in an investor call.

In the third quarter of FY26, NTPC had added 1,744 MW of capacity, comprising a 694 MW renewable energy project and 250 MW from the THDC pumped storage project. January 2026 was noted as one of the highest months for capacity additions in the preceding ten-month period, with 468 MW of renewable energy added in that month alone, bringing NTPC’s total renewable capacity additions for FY26 to 6,615 MW.

The Ramagundam project is expected to support Telangana’s goal of procuring 3 GW of solar power over the next five years under the Telangana Clean and Green Energy Policy, 2025. The state is required to add 12,000 MW of renewable capacity by 2030 to meet its Renewable Consumption Obligation (RCO) targets, with capacity addition phased in tranches of 1,000 MW by June 2026, a further 1,000 MW by December 2026, and another 1,000 MW by June 2027, administered through competitive bidding by the Telangana Green Power Procurement Coordination Committee (TGPPCC).
