Tata Power’s TP Renewable Microgrid expands biogas-based energy project in UP village

A clean energy project combining biogas and solar power is being expanded in Paska Bazar village, as TP Renewable Microgrid, a unit of The Tata Power Company Limited, steps up efforts to improve reliable electricity access in rural areas.

The initiative focuses on using biogas alongside solar energy to reduce dependence on diesel and provide a steady power supply for households and small businesses in the village.

The initiative combines solar power with biogas-based solutions to promote energy independence in rural areas while reducing environmental impact.

Paska village, located in Paraspur block of Gonda district, lies about 35 km from the district headquarters and nearly 95 km from Lucknow. The village has around 2,500 families, most of whom rely on agriculture and dairy farming, Solar Quarter reported.

The area has long faced unreliable electricity supply, frequent outages, and heavy dependence on diesel generators. Seasonal flooding has added to the challenges, affecting both households and local businesses. Dairy farming remains a key source of income, making reliable power essential for milk collection and storage.

To address these issues, the company installed a 30 kWp solar microgrid in December 2020, supplying clean and steady electricity to about 150 users. The system supports small businesses such as grocery stores, tea stalls, eateries, flour mills, and dairy centres.

With demand rising, the capacity has now been increased to 50 kWp. The expansion is expected to provide more stable power, improve business activity, and reduce reliance on diesel generators.

Officials said the upgrade will also help cut carbon emissions by around 16 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year, contributing to cleaner energy use in the region.
