The MV Ultra Yorkshire, operated by Ultrabulk, has completed its first transatlantic voyage, arriving at the Port of Liverpool with more than 29,000 tonnes of biomass pellets.
The cargo is destined for Drax Power Station in North Yorkshire and will be transported onward by rail, Bioenergy Insight reported.
The vessel, named during the power station’s 50th anniversary celebrations, sailed from Baton Rouge using B100 biofuel, cutting carbon emissions from the journey by about 90% compared to traditional marine fuels.
In a related development, Drax has signed a new agreement with Ultrabulk that will run until March 2031. The deal includes yearly commitments to reduce emissions linked to transportation over the contract period.
