Mumbai: In a fresh boost to its renewable energy portfolio, state-owned power giant NTPC Limited has announced the commercial operation of an additional 270 MW of solar power capacity. The new capacity, part of the massive Khavda-II Solar PV Project in Gujarat, became operational from the early hours of Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
The disclosure was made by NTPC Limited to both the BSE and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Tuesday. According to the regulatory filings, the 270 MW represents the third part of the larger 1200 MW Khavda-II project. The project is being developed by NTPC Renewable Energy Limited, which is a step-down subsidiary of NTPC Limited.
NTPC Green Energy’s Growing Portfolio
The project is held under NTPC Renewable Energy Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL). With this declaration, the NTPC Green Energy Limited Group’s commercial capacity has seen a significant jump. An official communication from NGEL’s Company Secretary, Manish Kumar, confirmed that their group’s commercial capacity now stands at 9,292.68 MW. With the addition of this 270 MW, NGEL’s total installed capacity will increase to 9,562.68 MW.
NTPC Group’s Total Capacity
At the parent company level, this addition pushes the overall capacity of the NTPC Group past a new milestone. As confirmed by NTPC’s Company Secretary, Ritu Arora, in a separate filing, the total installed capacity of the NTPC group now stands at 88,544 MW, with the total commercial capacity reaching 87,464 MW effective from March 11.
The Khavda-II project is located in the renewable energy-rich Kutch region of Gujarat, which is rapidly becoming a hub for solar and wind energy generation in India. This declaration underscores NTPC’s commitment to expanding its green energy footprint as part of the country’s broader energy transition goals.
