Egypt to boost biodiesel production using recycled cooking oil

Egypt plans to expand its biodiesel production by recycling used cooking oil, with a new processing facility to be set up with investment from Al Mana Holding, according to a report by UkrAgroConsult.

The plant will be built in the Tenth of Ramadan City integrated waste management zone. Once operational, it will be able to process up to 100 tonnes of waste cooking oil each day. The collected oil will be converted into biodiesel, which can be used as a renewable fuel.

Officials from the Egyptian Ministry of Environment said the project is aimed at collecting large amounts of used cooking oil that are often disposed of informally and directing them into a structured recycling system that supports fuel production.

Egypt consumes millions of tonnes of edible oil every year. This creates a large supply of used cooking oil that can potentially be collected and processed for biodiesel production.
