Repsol has marked a major step in its efforts to reduce emissions from transport by expanding the supply of Nexa Diesel made from 100% renewable sources to 1,500 service stations across the Iberian Peninsula. Of these, 1,429 stations are located in Spain and 71 in Portugal, reports biofuels international.
The company said the move strengthens its commitment to renewable fuels and widens the range of energy options available to customers. The expansion is in line with targets outlined in the updated 2024–2027 strategic plan.
With this development, Repsol has emerged as Europe’s largest network for 100% renewable fuels. The company has already sold more than 210 million litres of renewable diesel so far this year. At present, over 40% of its service station network offers renewable fuel, highlighting that cutting emissions from transport through renewable liquid fuels is possible even with conventional combustion engines.
Such engines still dominate the market, accounting for 97% of vehicles in both Spain and Europe, and 87% of vehicle sales in Spain so far this year. Repsol said recognising the role of fully renewable fuels is essential for meeting Spain’s and Europe’s climate targets by reducing carbon dioxide emissions from existing vehicles.
Valero MarÃn, Repsol’s Chief Customer Officer, said the expansion to 1,500 stations supplying renewable Nexa Diesel is an important step in the company’s decarbonisation plans. He added that Repsol remains focused on cutting emissions and offering a wide range of energy solutions to meet customer needs, while supporting a gradual transition towards cleaner mobility.
