The Renewable Energy India Expo 2025 is expected to attract over ₹1,800 crore in new investment commitments for India’s bioenergy sector, according to the Indian Biogas Association (IBA), which made the announcement on Sunday, reported news agency PTI.
This year’s event will place a strong emphasis on biogas, recognizing it as a pivotal driver of India’s green growth, the IBA said in a statement.
The three-day Renewable Energy India Expo (REI) 2025, set to take place from October 30 to November 1, 2025, at the India Expo Centre in Greater Noida, is anticipated to unlock more than ₹1,800 crore in fresh investments for the country’s bioenergy sector.
The sector is gaining unprecedented momentum, driven by the government’s expansion of the SATAT scheme (Sustainable Alternative towards Affordable Transportation), the establishment of new compressed biogas (CBG) plants across states, and the increasing recognition of biogas as a key feedstock for future fuels like methanol and di-methyl ether.
This year’s Bio-Energy Pavilion, organized by the IBA, will be the largest in its history, featuring 30% more exhibitors than 2024 and drawing significant participation from global technology leaders, startups, and policymakers. The pavilion, supported by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), will showcase innovations in waste-to-energy technologies, CBG, and co-digestion models, along with digital monitoring solutions.
In a statement, IBA President AR Shukla remarked, “India is no longer viewing biogas as just a rural solution. It’s become a key component of our clean energy economy, helping reduce carbon emissions, supporting farmers, fueling transport, and driving the green economy. REI 2025 will highlight the sector’s transition from pilot projects to nationwide impact.”
The expo is expected to attract over 60,000 participants from around the world, with representation from sectors such as bioenergy, solar, wind, hydrogen, e-mobility, and energy storage.
IBA Chairman Gaurav Kedia emphasized the economic significance of biogas, stating, “Biogas is not just about clean energy; it represents economic security and plays a crucial role in the development-led energy transition. With India’s potential to produce over 62 million tons of CBG annually, we can significantly reduce fuel imports, create thousands of rural and urban jobs, and establish a truly circular economy.”
Kedia also noted that REI 2025 would provide a platform for investors, innovators, and policymakers to shape the next phase of growth in the bioenergy sector. He added, “Bioenergy is central to India’s energy transformation.”
The IBA further highlighted that biogas will serve a dual role in India’s energy future: reducing fossil fuel imports through large-scale CBG adoption and contributing to India’s Net Zero Mission, by making bioenergy production both cleaner and more affordable.
Over the years, the REI Expo has become India’s most influential renewable energy platform. For the IBA, REI 2025 marks a pivotal moment in demonstrating India’s bioenergy advancements, transitioning from local initiatives to global collaborations, and positioning biogas as a vital solution for climate, energy, and economic challenges.
In 2024, the expo saw investment commitments worth ₹1,850 crore and the signing of several MoUs.
