Electric scooter manufacturer Ather Energy has celebrated a major manufacturing success, rolling out its 500,000th electric scooter from its facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. The landmark unit was the company’s newest family-focused model, the Rizta, which has rapidly become a significant source of growth since its launch last year, reports Rushlane.
This achievement signals strong expansion and consistent demand for the Bengaluru-based EV maker in the Indian electric two-wheeler market. Ather has broadened its appeal from a brand known for performance to one offering a full range of products for both families and enthusiasts.
The Ather Rizta has been a key driver of this growth, now making up over a third of Ather’s total production volume. Its design, which prioritizes comfort, usefulness, and safety, has helped Ather appeal to a wider audience, particularly in the family scooter segment where traditional gasoline models dominate. Ather is also actively growing its presence across central and northern India, moving into smaller cities to make its products and charging stations more accessible.
To meet rising demand, Ather is expanding its manufacturing footprint. The company currently has two facilities in Hosur—one for vehicle assembly and one for battery production—with a combined capacity of 420,000 scooters annually. A third facility, Factory 3.0, is now being developed in Bidkin, Maharashtra, which will use advanced digital manufacturing systems. Once fully operational in two phases, the total installed capacity will reach 1.42 million electric two-wheelers per year.
Commenting on the event, Swapnil Jain, Co-founder and CTO of Ather Energy, stated, “Reaching 500,000 scooters is an important step for Ather. From our very first test model to today, our goal has been to create not just vehicles, but a manufacturing system that is scalable, trustworthy, and consistent. This accomplishment showcases years of focused engineering, extensive testing, and great attention to detail at every phase of production. It also underlines the dedication of all our teams and the faith of our owner community, who have supported us throughout this journey.”
With the strong public reception to the Rizta and its ongoing expansion of sales and service points, Ather Energy is well-positioned to be a leader in the next stage of India’s electric vehicle transformation. The company remains focused on improving its product line, increasing production, and strengthening its Ather Grid charging infrastructure.
