Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd., a long-standing leader in India’s pump industry, has achieved a significant step forward in its green energy mission. The company has received approval from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd. (MSEDCL) under the “Magel Tyala Saur Krushi Pump” Yojana, part of the PM-KUSUM B scheme. The contract involves the design, manufacturing, supply, transportation, installation, testing, and commissioning of 1,884 off-grid DC Solar Photovoltaic Water Pumping Systems (SPWPS), with a total value of Rs. 49 crore.
This initiative aims to offer sustainable and efficient irrigation solutions to farmers, especially in off-grid and rural areas. Crompton’s responsibilities cover the entire project lifecycle, including a five-year warranty, maintenance support, and advanced Remote Monitoring Systems (RMS) for every installation. The company will also ensure on-ground support through trained professionals, district-level service centers, and a bilingual helpline for timely assistance during the contract duration.
In a country where agriculture supports over 60% of the population, access to reliable irrigation remains a critical issue. Government programs like PM-KUSUM and the National Solar Mission are playing a key role in promoting solar water pumps as a solution to water scarcity and unreliable electricity in rural areas. These initiatives, combined with increasing environmental awareness and adoption of smart technologies such as IoT-based monitoring, are paving the way for broader solar integration in farming. Crompton sees this as an opportunity to provide innovative and future-ready solutions that contribute to renewable energy targets and rural empowerment.
