Organic Recycling Systems Ltd. (ORSL) announced today that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Solapur Bioenergy Systems, has been awarded a significant operations and maintenance (O&M) contract by Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL). The contract covers IOCL’s large-scale compressed biogas (CBG) plant in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, which processes 200 tonnes of paddy straw daily, reports Energetica India.
The plant, designed to process agricultural waste such as paddy straw, press mud, and cattle dung, is part of IOCL’s push towards clean energy and supports the Government of India’s SATAT (Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation) initiative. Once operational, it will produce compressed biogas as a green fuel alternative along with organic manure, promoting both energy security and sustainable farming.
Under the agreement, Solapur Bioenergy Systems will handle all aspects of the plant’s operation and upkeep. This includes ensuring uninterrupted plant functioning, safety compliance, routine operations, maintenance, and manpower deployment.
The project is expected to play a vital role in curbing stubble burning, creating rural employment, and contributing to India’s efforts to cut greenhouse gas emissions. It also aims to strengthen the regional economy by converting agricultural waste into clean energy.
Commenting on the development, Sarang Bhand, Promoter and Managing Director of ORSL, said, “This project with IOCL strengthens our commitment to sustainable growth. It reflects our ability to manage large-scale projects that are not only technically demanding but also socially and environmentally impactful. We are proud to support India’s transition to a bio-based economy.”
