HHP Five Private Limited, a subsidiary of Hygenco Green Energies Pvt Ltd and a frontrunner in low-cost green hydrogen production, celebrated a significant achievement with the groundbreaking ceremony for its Green Ammonia Plant in Gopalpur, Odisha. The event was attended by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, along with senior government officials and prominent industry figures. This initiative highlights Odisha’s growing prominence as a center for clean energy-led industrial development and establishes Gopalpur as a key player in India’s sustainable growth trajectory.
In a major achievement last year, Hygenco commissioned India’s first commercial-scale megawatt Green Hydrogen plant, aimed at supporting the decarbonization of the steel industry. The upcoming Green Ammonia facility in Gopalpur is set to produce 1.1 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of green ammonia in three phases:
Phase 1 (2028): 220 KTPA (Kilo Tonnes Per Annum)
Phase 2 (2029): Additional 220 KTPA
Phase 3 (2030 onwards): Completion of full 730 KTPA capacity
Amit Bansal, Co-founder and CEO of Hygenco Green Energies, remarked, “Following our pioneering role in Green Hydrogen, we are now setting new standards in India’s Green Ammonia sector. This project not only furthers our goals for energy independence but also opens avenues for exports, reinforcing India’s position as a global Green Ammonia leader. Our commitment is to offer cost-effective, world-class solutions to support industrial decarbonization and align with the nation’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision.”
The plant is also anticipated to create indirect employment during both its construction and operational phases. Its strategic location near the Gopalpur port enhances its ability to serve both domestic markets and international export demands, driving decarbonization across crucial industrial sectors.
