Petrobras selects Honeywell ETJ technology for Brazil’s first large-scale SAF project

Honeywell has said that Petrobras has chosen its UOP Ethanol-to-Jet (ETJ) technology for a new project at the REPLAN refinery in São Paulo, a move aimed at boosting production of sustainable aviation fuel in Brazil, IndexBox reported.

The project, once approved, is expected to produce up to 10,000 barrels per day of sustainable aviation fuel, making it the first large-scale ETJ project in Latin America.

Honeywell’s ETJ technology uses ethanol as a renewable raw material, offering a cost-effective way to expand sustainable aviation fuel production. Petrobras’s decision to use ethanol highlights its focus on cleaner energy and reducing emissions in the aviation sector.

With demand for sustainable aviation fuel expected to rise, companies are increasingly adopting proven and reliable technologies. The planned facility at REPLAN will use ethanol from Brazil’s strong biofuel industry to help airlines lower emissions over the fuel’s lifecycle and improve access to cleaner jet fuel.

The project is also expected to strengthen Brazil’s position as a future leader in sustainable aviation fuel production.
