Indonesia Navy to use B50 biofuel for patrol vessels from July 2026

Indonesian Navy plans to introduce B50 biofuel, a mix of 50% palm oil-based biodiesel and 50% conventional diesel, for its patrol vessels as part of efforts to reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

The decision was announced on April 16 by Muhammad Ali, who said the move would support naval operations such as patrol, logistics, and troop transport. Biofuel use will initially be focused on high-mobility vessels, with some changes required in existing marine engines, according to UkrAgroConsult.

Indonesia has set July 1, 2026, as the date for making the B50 fuel standard mandatory across the country. Officials expect the shift to strengthen energy independence and improve overall efficiency.

Industry estimates indicate that adopting B50 could increase Indonesia’s annual demand for palm oil by about 1.5 million tonnes. This may reduce the volume available for export and push up global prices.

Separately, developments in grain and oilseed markets in Ukraine and the Black Sea region will be discussed at the BLACK SEA GRAIN. KYIV conference, scheduled for April 22–23 in Kyiv. The event will focus on long-term plans for the agriculture sector, including investment, energy use, processing, and exports.
