India’s exports of electric motor cars surged in the first quarter of financial year 2026-27, with export earnings rising more than 16-fold from a year earlier as European markets emerged as major destinations, News Bytes reported.
Export earnings from electric motor cars increased to $369 million in April-June, from $22.2 million in the same period of the previous financial year. Export volumes also jumped to 10,802 units from 1,309 units.
Europe accounted for a significant share of India’s electric car exports, with Spain emerging as the largest destination.
India exported electric cars worth $146.4 million to Spain during the quarter, accounting for nearly 40% of total exports in the category. The United Kingdom was the second-largest market, with exports valued at $78.7 million.
Germany was another major European destination, receiving electric cars worth $25.1 million. Exports to Norway stood at $21.1 million, while Denmark accounted for $21 million.
Other European markets also recorded imports from India, including Belgium at $12.9 million, the Netherlands at $12 million, Greece at $3.8 million, Italy at $2.7 million, Sweden at $2.1 million and Poland at $1.6 million.
Indian electric car exports also expanded beyond Europe. Japan imported vehicles worth $13.4 million, while exports to Israel stood at $2.8 million and Australia at $2.7 million.
Other Asia-Pacific markets included Singapore, with imports worth $1.7 million, and Taiwan at $1.3 million. South Korea was also among the destinations for Indian electric vehicles.
India also recorded exports to Latin American markets, including Brazil at $2.4 million, Colombia at $1 million, Costa Rica at $0.5 million and Chile at $0.4 million.
The sharp rise in shipments and the growing geographical spread indicate an expansion in overseas demand for electric cars made in India, with European markets currently accounting for a substantial share of the country’s exports.
