Egypt’s Minister affirms country’s commitment to advancing green hydrogen agenda

Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, reaffirmed the country’s dedication to advancing its green hydrogen agenda, outlining the government’s plan for implementing these initiatives in a recent statement.

He emphasized Egypt’s eagerness to collaborate with international firms to ensure the success of these projects. The Ministry of Petroleum is focused on streamlining procedures for ongoing projects in partnership with leading global companies while also localizing essential technologies to attract additional investments.

Badawi highlighted that Egypt has the necessary resources to become a reliable hydrogen supplier for Europe and the global market.

These comments were made during a meeting with representatives from companies including John Cockerill, Scatec, Schlumberger, Technip, and Riley Petroleum to discuss cooperation on a green ammonia production project planned for Damietta Governorate.

This project, supported by facilities from Misr Fertilizers Production Company (MOPCO) worth $900 million, will include solar and wind power plants and an electrolyzer capable of producing 150,000 tons of green ammonia annually for use as clean fuel.
