New Delhi: Delhi is set to commission its first compressed biogas (CBG) plant at Goyla Dairy in southwest Delhi by September, with the facility expected to process 200 tonnes of cattle dung every day into vehicle fuel and organic fertiliser.
Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar reviewed the progress of the project on Friday and directed officials to accelerate the remaining work. The project has assumed significance after Union Home Minister Amit Shah set a target of processing 1,500 tonnes of dairy waste under the Clean Yamuna initiative, Hindustan Times reported.
Being developed under the Urban Development Fund of the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the plant will process cattle dung and municipal solid waste to produce compressed biogas and organic fertiliser.
During the inspection, Khirwar instructed the executing agency to deploy additional manpower and resources to complete the pending civil, mechanical and electrical works.
“The project must be completed and made ready for commissioning on or before September 17. The agency must also ensure that no cattle dung flows into nearby drains and that proper collection, transportation and processing arrangements are in place to safeguard the environment and public health,” he said.
After reviewing the project, the commissioner also inspected major solid waste management facilities in the MCD’s West Zone to assess the implementation of waste management projects and infrastructure upgrades.
