Canada’s Imperial Oil Ltd. announced on May 2 that construction of its renewable diesel facility at the Strathcona refinery near Edmonton, Alberta, will be completed in the second quarter of 2025. The facility is expected to begin operations by mid-year, reports Biomass Magazine.
Originally announced in 2021, the project involves building a 20,000-barrel-per-day renewable diesel complex. The company made its final investment decision in January 2023 and began construction shortly after. Once operational, the plant will be capable of producing over 1 billion liters—approximately 264 million gallons—of renewable diesel each year.
Speaking during a first quarter earnings call, Imperial Oil Chairman and CEO Brad Corson said construction is nearly complete and operations are on track to start in the coming months.
