OQ Gas Networks SAOG (OQGN), the sole operator of Oman’s natural gas transmission network, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gasunie Waterstof Holding B.V. (Gasunie), a Dutch company specializing in natural gas infrastructure and transportation in the Netherlands and Germany.
In line with Oman’s Vision 2040 and its commitment to a sustainable energy future, this strategic partnership highlights OQGN’s goal to establish Oman as a leading global player in the energy transition. The agreement will focus on developing green hydrogen infrastructure in Oman and facilitating the exchange of knowledge on carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies.
This MoU follows the government-level agreement between Oman and the Netherlands signed in November 2022 during COP27, which aims to foster bilateral cooperation on green energy and advance green hydrogen infrastructure.
The MoU was signed by Eng. Mansoor bin Ali Al Abdali, CEO of OQGN, and Ms. Willemien Terpstra, CEO of N.V. Nederlandse Gasunie and 100% shareholder of Gasunie Waterstof B.V.
The collaboration seeks to explore the creation of a hydrogen supply chain linking Oman with the Netherlands and Northwest Europe, with a focus on developing the required hydrogen infrastructure in Oman. It will also lay the groundwork for the exchange of expertise in CCUS technologies, supporting both nations’ commitment to global climate goals and sustainable development.
Commenting on the agreement, Eng. Mansoor bin Ali Al Abdali, CEO of OQGN, said: “OQGN is proud to contribute to Oman’s green hydrogen value chain by ensuring the timely development of essential hydrogen infrastructure. OQGN and Gasunie will jointly assess, enable, and implement the necessary steps to advance this initiative. This collaboration will also enhance Oman’s role in the global energy transition and promote innovation in CCUS initiatives, crucial for achieving international climate objectives and ensuring long-term sustainability.”
The MoU signing emphasizes OQGN’s dedication to international cooperation in accelerating the global energy transition and reinforces Oman’s strategic vision of becoming a leading exporter of green hydrogen. As the operator of Oman’s gas transmission infrastructure, OQGN is ideally positioned to support and drive this transformation.
