Estonian dairy company Halinga OÜ has announced plans to build and operate a combined biogas and gas upgrading plant in partnership with Germany-based EnviTec Biogas. The project, set to be located in Langerma, Pärnu County, is expected to be completed by spring 2026.
Maurice Markerink, Managing Director of EnviTec Anlagenbau GmbH & Co. KG, expressed pride in collaborating with Halinga OÜ to support its environmental goals.
Halinga OÜ, a part of the internationally active Infortar Group, specializes in maritime transport, energy, and real estate. The biogas plant, equipped with EnviTec’s EnviThan gas upgrading technology, is projected to produce 600 Nm³ of biomethane per hour. It will utilize liquid manure and biowaste generated on-site.
Raul Peetson, Managing Director of Halinga OÜ, highlighted the company’s focus on combining renewable energy and regional circular economy practices to modernize agriculture.
Infortar Group has already invested approximately 30 million euros in biomethane facilities. Its biomethane is widely used as fuel by public transportation services in Tartu, Rakvere, and Pärnu.
Maurice Markerink noted that biomethane is available at selected fuel stations across Estonia, further supporting the country’s green energy transition.
The project is being financed through the European Union’s NextGenerationEU Restoration Fund and is expected to boost regional economic growth.
Halinga OÜ, one of Estonia’s largest milk producers, operates with over 3,000 animals and farms approximately 3,700 hectares, serving as a key employer in the region.
EnviTec Biogas has already delivered three gas upgrading plants to Estonia. The biomethane supplied is used as green fuel for public transport. According to Martti Talgre, the Managing Director of Infortar AS, it was the performance of their existing plants in Vinni, Tartu, and Oisu that led them to return to EnviTec for this project.
The gas upgrading plants in Tartu and Oisu were recently upgraded to produce over 500 Nm³ of biomethane per hour, thereby underlining Estonia’s drive toward more sustainable energy solutions.
