Kuching: Japanese trading giant Marubeni Corporation has reiterated its commitment to supporting sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production and other green initiatives in Sarawak.
The pledge was made to Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan over a meeting on December 18 in Tokyo, Japan. The talk revolved around SARAWAK’s advancement of its dream for green energy.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in May between Marubeni and Invest Sarawak provided the renewed commitment. This includes an outline for a feasibility study regarding the production and sale of SAF made from biomass.
According to a statement from the Ministry of International Trade, Industry, and Investment, or Mintred, Sarawak, “This initiative is in line with the Post-Covid Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, focusing on economic prosperity, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability.”
Awang Tengah, who also serves as the Minister responsible for the project, welcomed Marubeni’s investment. He expressed hope that the collaboration would further strengthen Sarawak’s efforts to develop sustainable industries.
