Assam: Oil India Ltd, Tinsukia Municipal Board join hands for compressed biogas plant

Oil India Ltd (OIL) and Tinsukia Municipal Board (TMB) have collaborated to convert municipal solid waste (MSW) into compressed biogas (CBG) to advance sustainable waste management practices in the region. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was formalized at the Tinsukia district commissioner’s office on Tuesday, marking the commencement of a partnership that will lead to the establishment of an organic MSW-based CBG plant in the district.

This initiative is poised to make a substantial environmental impact by diminishing landfill waste and fostering the generation of clean energy. As outlined in the MoU, OIL will furnish technical and administrative assistance for the project, capitalizing on its expertise in biogas and its derivatives. The company will engage a consultant to craft a comprehensive project report (DPR) to ensure the seamless execution of the CBG plant.

The plant is slated to have a target production capacity of 2 tonnes per day. TMB will play a pivotal role by providing 40-50 tonnes of segregated organic MSW daily for the CBG plant. TMB has agreed to allocate 6 to 8 acres of land to OIL for the plant. The agreement was signed by Pabitra Gogoi, chairman of TMB, and Madhurjya Chaliha, manager (PR) of OIL, in the presence of Tinsukia district commissioner Swapneel Paul and other officials from the Tinsukia district administration and OIL.
