MOPCO and Selenis announce major developments in green energy and sustainable textiles

The Misr Fertilizers Production Company (MOPCO) in Egypt has announced plans to complete two major projects by the end of 2027, reports Chemanalyst

These projects aim to enhance the company’s capacity for green hydrogen production, expand its factory operations, and increase urea output. The initiatives underscore Egypt’s commitment to advancing sustainable energy and boosting industrial productivity, as reported by Al Arabiya Business.

In another significant development, Selenis, a leader in polymer production, has successfully produced recycled PET chips using terephthalic acid provided by Circ, a Virginia-based textile recycler. The production process took place at Selenis’ pilot facility in San Giorgio, Italy, and involved recycling polycotton textile waste to create high-quality PET chips. These chips were then processed into draw-textured yarn (DTY), which Circ plans to use for upcoming product launches.

Eduardo Santos, Head of Corporate Strategy at Selenis, expressed satisfaction with the results, stating that the monomer synthesis performed as effectively as virgin terephthalic acid. He praised the consistent quality of Circ’s recycled materials and noted that the partnership aligns with Selenis’ commitment to sustainable innovation in the textile industry.

Santos added that Selenis looks forward to expanding the collaboration and supporting Circ’s move into commercial production. The partnership is expected to pave the way for new advancements in textile recycling and sustainable industrial practices.

These developments highlight efforts in both Egypt and Europe to integrate greener, more sustainable technologies into key industries.
