U.S. exported 148.49 million gallons of ethanol in September: USDA

The U.S. exported 148.49 million gallons of ethanol and 1.01 million metric tons of distillers grains in September, according to data released by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service on November 5. While ethanol exports saw a noticeable increase, distillers grains exports were slightly lower compared to previous months, reported Ethanol Producer.

Ethanol exports in September marked a rise, both compared to the 141.12 million gallons exported in August and the 119.77 million gallons shipped in September 2023. The U.S. exported ethanol to nearly 35 countries, with Canada as the leading destination, receiving 64.87 million gallons. The United Kingdom followed with 21.14 million gallons, and the Netherlands imported 16.93 million gallons.

The total value of U.S. ethanol exports in September was $378.94 million, an increase from $320.29 million in August and $317.86 million in September 2023. Over the first nine months of 2024, U.S. ethanol exports reached 1.39 billion gallons, valued at $3.18 billion, up from 1.02 billion gallons at $2.82 billion during the same period in 2023.

On the other hand, distillers grains exports saw a slight dip in September, totaling 1.01 million metric tons. This was down from 1.12 million metric tons in August and 1.03 million metric tons in September 2023. The U.S. exported distillers grains to around 36 countries, with Mexico as the top destination, importing 178,206 metric tons. South Korea and Turkey followed with 137,591 metric tons and 119,542 metric tons, respectively.

The value of U.S. distillers grains exports fell to $242.15 million in September, a decline from $285.57 million in August and $286.9 million in September 2023. For the first three quarters of 2024, total distillers grains exports reached nearly 9.1 million metric tons, valued at $2.41 billion, slightly down from 8.05 million metric tons at $2.53 billion in the same period of 2023.
