Arrests made in connection with biodiesel fraud case: Media report

The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) in Brussels has arrested two suspects in connection with a customs fraud investigation involving €3.1 million in biodiesel imports, reported Biofuels International.

These suspects, who hold dual citizenship in Bosnia and the US, were arrested last month during a trial at the Court of Antwerp for a separate case led by Belgium’s national prosecutor, which also involved allegations of biodiesel fraud.

The EPPO had been monitoring these individuals as part of its investigation into a criminal organization that illegally imported biodiesel from the US into the EU, leading to their arrest by Belgium’s Federal Police (CDGEFID/OCDEFO). They are currently under electronic surveillance.

Since the main suspects are US citizens with assets in the US, the EPPO is actively seeking cooperation from relevant US authorities to seize these assets and recover the estimated damages to the EU budget.
