EBB calls on EU transport ministers to set ambitious goals for post-2030 transport decarbonisation

Brussels: As EU transport ministers prepare to meet on the 8th of June in Luxembourg to debate the future of decarbonising the transport sector post-2030, the stakes couldn’t be higher. While the EU has set a clear path toward 2030 targets and an ambitious 90% net GHG reduction by 2040, a critical piece of the puzzle is missing: long-term, binding regulatory certainty for road transport. The European Biodiesel Board (EBB), representing biodiesel (FAME & HVO) and bioSAF producers in the EU, calls on the ministers to push for a robust, predictable framework, to realistically meet our climate neutrality goals, according to a press release.

As the largest final energy consumer in the EU, transport, and specifically road transport, requires an ambitious approach that leaves room for all solutions to contribute. As Ministers gather to discuss the path forward, we urge policymakers to look closely at the post-2030 Renewable Energy Directive (RED) framework. In our recently published position paper, EBB advocates for a framework that continues the current trend of progressively increasing decarbonisation targets.

Domenico Mininini, Policy Director at EBB said: “The transport ministers are meeting at a crucial time. The EU biofuel sector provides immediately deployable, cost-effective solutions to reduce transport emissions today and in the decades to come. Now is the time too build a post-2030 framework that fosters industrial leadership and strategic autonomy”.
