India’s first hydrogen-powered train is ready for launch and is currently awaiting the final inauguration, with the Railways seeking time from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to fix a date.
For now, the train is stationed at the Shakurbasti shed. Once formally launched, it will begin operations on the Jind–Sonipat route, Amar Ujala reported.
Railway officials said that both the hydrogen train and the associated plant have already completed trial runs and inspections successfully. A recent inspection was carried out by Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety Janak Kumar Garg along with a technical team.
During the inspection, the hydrogen plant and the train were found to meet all required technical and safety standards. Experts examined every aspect in detail and submitted a satisfactory report.
Officials said the introduction of the hydrogen train will make travel on this route more environment-friendly, as it will run on hydrogen fuel instead of diesel, helping reduce pollution.
They added that this initiative is expected to be a major step for Indian Railways and could pave the way for similar trains on other routes in the future. At present, attention is focused on the announcement of the inauguration date.
