Malaysia to roll out B15 biodiesel blend in phases

Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said the rollout of the B15 biodiesel blend will be carried out in stages to avoid disruption to existing industry operations.

The minister said a gradual approach is needed to ensure smooth coordination at blending centres without affecting the current supply chain. “If operations at blending centres can be managed without infrastructure upgrades, the blend can be increased from B10 to B15, but it must be done progressively,” he said.

B15 consists of 15 per cent palm oil-based biodiesel mixed with 85 per cent petroleum diesel, compared to the current B10 blend, Business Today reported.

He added that moving to higher blends such as B20 and B30 would require additional investment and infrastructure upgrades.

The government has approved an increase in the blend rate from B10 to B15, beginning with B12, without raising costs, amid ongoing global energy uncertainties.

The move is aimed at extending diesel supply, reducing dependence on fossil fuel imports and supporting the shift towards renewable energy.

Akmal Nasrullah said he will visit a biodiesel facility in Port Klang along with Noraini Ahmad to assess its readiness for production.
